Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Workshop | February 20 & 21st

Last Update: January 7, 2019

We will help you begin the process of developing your Plan of Action Manual into a document to address USDA GAPs and Harmonized GAPs audit protocols. We will discuss how the audit works, the manual and address some of the newly updated requirements that accompany GAPs audits. Your take-home resources will include templates and materials to develop the new document.

We are offering classes intended to be taken in steps to prepare you for your USDA Basic GAP/Food Safety certification (Day One). Although participants are encouraged to ultimately achieve a Harmonized GAP Certification, growers are encouraged to achieve the basic certification first before attempting the higher level certification. Once you have passed the basic audit GAP Certification, then you would be prepared to understand the process and procedure to move to the Harmonized level. The second day’s workshop (Day Two) will set the foundation to ultimately prepare for your Harmonized GAP. (It is not recommended to attempt the Harmonized audit-Day Two- until you have first achieved the Basic GAP Certification for one year.)

DAY ONE: BASIC
Wed. February 20, 2019
9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Introduction to Basic GAPs Certification & Audits
$10.00 per person attending.

All Day session for “first time” or Uncertified Growers
This workshop will break down the basic certification and audit process, procedures and the steps needed to achieve certification. We will discuss how the audit works, the Plan of Action Manual and address the requirements that accompany the GAP Audit. Your take-home resources will include templates and materials to develop the new document. If you are new to the GAP process, this is the workshop to begin your food safety program for your farm. We will also discuss the upcoming mandatory FDA/PSA Training that will be offered in the fall of 2019.

DAY TWO: ADVANCED
Thurs., February 21, 2019, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Transitioning to Harmonized GAPs
$10.00 per person attending.

Day Two – All Day session for Certified Growers
Rather than having to do multiple audits for food safety certification as in the past, the industry standard has moved to the harmonized audit process – one audit offered by any credible third party acceptable to all buyers. This workshop is designed for farmers and growers who market their produce commercially (wholesale) and have been requested to take their food safety program to the next level – Harmonized GAP. We will also discuss the upcoming mandatory FDA/PSA Training that will be offered in the fall of 2019.
